Fall Break Trip to St. George

This post is sponsored by Graco. I received the Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Car Seat to review free of charge, and I’m being compensated to write about my experience. I’ve shared my honest opinions about this car seat, and I was very impressed with its features and how much my son enjoys it!

This past weekend was our Fall Break, which means the kids were out of school for 3 extra days! It was really our only chance for vacation until Christmas so we decided to take a quick trip down to St. George to see my family. We also got to celebrate Ivie’s birthday and visited an amazing new park there called Thunder Junction. It’s been a while since we have taken a longer road trip and I was wondering how Kyle would do in the car. He’s 9 months old now and the kid is growing like a weed! He’s in the 95th percentile for height, which if you know my older kids, is not a big surprise. All of my other kids around this age (9-12 months) completely outgrew their infant car seats. With my boys, we switched them forward-facing right before their 1st birthdays and it was fine. Once the girls came along, the AAP recommendations changed and they were supposed to stay rear-facing until 2 years of age. I remember their long little legs getting so scrunched up, and finally it was so uncomfortable that I switched them around early. With Kyle, I’ve been debating what to do and I decided to find a rear-facing car seat that he could use comfortably until the age of two. We’ve used Graco car seats for all of our babies, so I started my research with a brand that I know and trust. Graco has recently come out with the Extend2Fit 3-in-1 Car Seat, and I was lucky enough to get one for Kyle.

Before I get to the rest of our weekend trip, I have to tell you what I love about his new car seat! First of all, it is a 3-in-1 seat which means you can use it for a newborn infant (rear-facing), toddler forward-facing, to a 7-year-old child in the high-back booster position. I feel confident recommending a quality car seat that parents will be able to use for several years. My favorite feature is the 3-position extension panel that allows for an extra 5″ of legroom for my little guy!

I wish I would have had this for all of my kids!

One of the other things I noticed right away was all the extra padding and comfortable foam inserts. We took a few of them out, just to fit his helmet better, but it was still great without them. Another convenient feature is having a cup holder on each side that he can reach himself to grab his sippy cup or a toy. The headrest itself is awesome because it can adjust to 10 different positions! And the harness moves up along with the headrest so you don’t have to re-adjust that separately.

As a busy mom always on the go, I appreciate the thought that goes into making the car seat installation and every day use much faster. The adjustments are so quick with this seat… to adjust the height of the headrest and harness, you simply pull a lever above the seat. To change from a leaning back position to straight up, there is a lever underneath that easily clicks it into the new position. So much better than all the manual straps we have with our other seats. The Extend2Fit 3-in-1 car seat installation itself features the InRight LATCH system for a one-second latch attachment. Could it get any easier?

Now if only road trips with 5 kids could be just as simple and headache-free!! Surprisingly, our trip to St. George went pretty quickly. The older ones entertained themselves in the back, while Ivie serenaded Kyle with her favorite Daniel Tiger songs and her rendition of “You are My Sunshine!” to keep him smiling.

For Ivie’s birthday, we had planned to meet my family as soon as we got into town at a new park called Thunder Junction. I was blown away by the details and features of this park! It is an all-abilities park with a splash area, zip-line, working train and over 2,500 feet of train track. There are so many activities that appeal to all different age and ability levels. The weather was gorgeous and we had a wonderful time being with family. Here is a little video of our time together:

Our first stop was the train. One of the highlights of our trip was seeing grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins! Here’s my mom and my brother with Kyle:

Next, we headed over to the play area. The ground is covered in almost a carpet textured material, which made it soft enough for Kyle to crawl around to his heart’s content! He loved every minute.

The younger kids like playing under this little dome, just crawling in and out. Anna got the giggles!

Ivie’s favorite spot was the water area with places to wade in and even a waterfall!

One of the best parts of our trip was getting to spend time with my sis!

I loved watching my kids interact with their aunts and uncles who they don’t get to see very often. Look how cute my little sister Lauryn is all dressed up for Halloween as Belle! Kyle adores her.

We had such a wonderful time. I am so grateful for this quick weekend getaway, I hope you get a chance to do the same with your family before it gets too cold!

(By the way, don’t you just want to squish those cheeks?? Love this kid.)

I love those two little teeth showing when he smiles. I also love the way babies stick their tongues out when they are doing something. Thanks for sharing the pictures. I need a grandchild but I live vicariously through other people’s kids until my “kids” decide to make me a Grandma!
